Take care of yourself during Winter

It's December..
I think nothing beats a hot bowl of oatmeal in the winter!
It's not only convenient and delicious, but also healthy,
full of nutrients and phytochemicals.

Recipe for my favourite one - with black sesame

Ingredients:
  • rolled oats (around 40g)
  • milk (enough to cover the oats)
  • black sesame powder (about 2-3 tablespoons
    + extra for topping)
  • maple syrup (optional; I prefer it without)
  • some berries for topping (I prefer it with goji berries)
Method:
  1. Preheat oven to 180C
  2. Combine ingredients in a bake safe bowl
  3. Bake for 15-20 minutes
  4. Top with more black sesame
    and any berries to serve

Independence Day

Two days ago was a Polish Independence Day.
This is a national holiday in Poland and of course
a day off from work. I live in Poznan,
where we also celebrate St. Martin's Day the same day
(also known as the name day of the city's main street).
Traditionally the greatest attraction of 11th November
in the capital of Wielkopolska Region are
crescent-shaped buns (rogale marcińskie).
I've never made them before, but this year
I tried and they were really delicious!

Most of the day all I had to do, was hope
for clear sky, because at night was a fireworks display!
I think most of the people loves watching fireworks
illuminate dark skies and I'm not the exception.
The weather was terrible, there was really cold
and wet most of the time, so me and Damon
were sitting at the restaurant when the show
began. It was like stars dancing to the music
at the dark sky!
Incredible!

Halloween

Halloween was yesterday,
but here's a little collage of photos made by me.
Happy Halloween everyone! I hope everyone had a great one.

Halloween isn't a Polish holiday
and has only recently been introduced
into our culture by Hollywood movies and chain stores.
That's why not everyone celebrates it. Many of bars or
restaurants have themed parties starting as much as
one week before Halloween, but next day is 1st November -
the All Saints' Day celebrated by almost everyone in Poland.
People visit cementaries, bring fresh flowers and light candles
to commemorate their beloved ones. This day shops are closed.
No crowds and parties should be expected.
Maybe that's why some people criticize celebration Halloween
and it's only sparsely celebrated in Poland.

Perfect Evening

In my opinion the best idea for the perfect evening
is a cup of tea and good book. I'm not good
at being patient, but I was waiting for one for weeks!
I've just bought "Over the Horizon".
This's the final book of the trilogy
written by Andriej Diakow.
I love the smell of new books!
And I'm sure, that the joy of smelling turning pages
can't be substitute by reading e-book.. Not for me.

Here's a collage of photos:

sweet brioches called in Poland "drożdżówki". Made these
for sunday's morning. The entire
family loved them.

Adventurous week

Who knew losing weight could be fun?
Last month I went into a Zumba class
with my cousin and her friend.
I was surprised at how fit and healthy
I began feeling after few lessons.
Awesome!

Few days ago was Claudia's birthday.
We went for a Black Metal Night,
but now I just know that I don't like
this kind of music. I tried to
enjoy of being there, but I really couldn't..
For many of us, music is part of life,
part of who we are. We defend our
beliefs about music with as much venom
and as we would defend our lovers..
Don't be afraid to be yourself,
in my opinion it's really important.
Anyway I made for Claudia "black metal"
cupcakes :)

Last weekend I spent with Damon and
his best friends. We went for a Poznan
Game Arena. It was pretty awesome to
saw so many cosplayers at the same place,
the same time. Next year I'll be
Katarina from League of Legends!

It's so cold in here..

The leaves are changing, the air is much chillier
and  warm drinks will really hit the spot.
I don't want to leave my warm bed,
unfortunalety I can't stay in bed all day..
I was going to go for a school trip to Liverpool
in November, but for now we still don't know
more than few facts - it's not enough people
to go. I'm so sad! :(

It's John Lennon - birthday present
for Kate. She said he's looking good,
but I know that his glasses, nose
and lips don't look as well as should.

September - be good for me.

My apologies for the long absence. Shame on me..
It's not like I haven't been busy.

My weight slowly started to decrease.
Well.. I'm not yet in the land of milk and honey.
In fact, I'm still in the desert...

Homemade Strawberry Lemonade

Summer has arrived, my friends!
Few days ago in Poznan was raining all the time,
but now all the windows in my house are open.

I really don't know what is it about me and
strawberries, but I'm obsessed!
I love buying them when they're in season
and perfectly fresh, juicy and ripe.
I went through a time in my life where
everywhere I went, if they served
strawberry lemonade, I ordered it.
I've never made it at home before.
Yesterday I've tried the basic lemonade
with the twist of this summer seasonal fruit.

Ingredients:
  • 1,5 cups strawberries, trimmed and halved
  • 1,5 cups fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 cups cold water
Preparation:
  • Puree strawberries with 2 tablespoons lemon juice
    in a blender until smooth
  • Force through a fine sieve into a bowl
    (to remove seeds)
  • Stir together strawberry puree, remaining
lemon juice, sugar and water in a pitcher
  • Taste and add more sugar if desired
  • Best served cold

Finally it's here - Summer Time!

It's so nice to see the sunshine and be warm again after
an incredibly long winter and questionable spring.

The shortest night of 2013 is behind us.
Poznan was the scene of thousands of paper laterns
filling the night sky. St. John's Night
(known also as Midsummer Night or Kupala Night)
celebrated by Slavs for hundreds of years
is a festival of fire, moon, joy and love.
For a moment it seemed like the night sky was ablaze.
This was definitely the most romantic night in Poznan
and I'm a bit dissapointed that Damon couldn't be there
with me.

Ursynalia Fest 2013

Last weekend me and Damon went to the
Ursynalia Warsaw Student Festival.
The event started about 3p.m., but we
were sitting under once of the big umbrellas
(the weather was so weird, at most
of the time was sunny and hot,
but sometimes it was raining)
and waited for Parkway Drive's concert.

There were a lot of stores with T-shirts,
accessories, food and beer, but most of them
were very expensive. Not much to say about
the food options - hot-dogs, ice-creams and
fried food. I think, you know what is the most
important at students' parties - good fun and cheap tickets,
that's why this year people were disappointed.

The moment when we arrived onto the main stage
was incredible, it was a sea of black T-shirts -
I knew I was at the right place. Only metalheads
will wear all black in 27+ degree celsius temperatures
when mud is everywhere around the scene.
When Winston came to the stage and
looked into our side, my heart was beating so
fast! This band is so amazing live that it's
better than perfect. I'm still processing it.

Happy Mother's Day

Today is a day devoted solely to moms everywhere.
Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday
of May in many countries, but in Poland it's always
on 26th of May. However moms deserve to be
honored every day for what they do for us.
I'm lucky to have an incredibly amazing one in my life.
Happy Mother's Day to all moms :)

My mother is a big oatmeal fan, so I decided
to do for her no-bake oatmeal cookies.
These are delicious, wonderful, quick cookies.

  • 3 cups quick cooking oats
  • 1/2 cup flaked coconut
  • 1/2 cup nuts
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • about 100g butter
  • a bar of chocolate

Cook sugar, milk, chocolate and butter.
Bring to a boil and boil for about 1 minute.
Pour over all other ingredients and stir
until well mixed. Drop by teaspoonsfuls
into waxed paper to cool.

With no sorrow, with no remorse

The city hides secrets of the liars in the streets..
Deep down inside I feel to scream,
I don't want to stand and watch it all...

KontenerArt

Well.. Last thursday I was seeing
with my best friend, Claudia.
I miss her so much!
We went to a LOS GRANDES
RUDEBOYS' concert. They played
in the very nice place
called KontenerArt at the riverside.

KontenerArt itself:
sand, fresh air, really good music
and nice design..

Yesterday I got to have an MRI
(Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
done on my knee. Sounds nice, huh?
But it's really boring.. I had to lay in
a big machine and I had to endure
sounds of erhh.. loud buzzing (?)
for about 40min.

It's a strange feeling to find
your old purse with some money
in it..

Cream of leek and potato soup - this has got to be one of
the most delicious soups I've ever made as well as
the easiest. My younger sister is not really a soup lover..
but really enjoyed this one.

Ingredients:

  •  4 medium sized leeks, sliced and throughly washed
  •  1 onion, skinned and sliced
  •  3 medium sized potatoes, peeled and sliced
  •  about 25g butter
  •  1 litre vegetable stock, salt and pepper
  •  45ml cream

Method:

  •  lightly fry the vegetables in the butter for about 4 minutes,
until soft but not coloured. Add the stock, cover and simmer
for about 45 minutes until the vegetables are cooked.
  •  Pure it in an electric blender and return it to the pan
  •  Re-heat and stir in the cream just before serving.

                       ***

My younger sister told me
that it's different manga version of me,
but I don't think so.
It's from my notebook for biology,
I drew this during lesson.
I usually don't finish my arts
'cause I'm lazy..

Erm.. yeah, that's all.

Damon's birthday

Today is my boyfriend's birthday.
"Do something that he would never
expect me to do" - I thought. I hope that
saturday's surprise party for him
will stay in his mind forever.

I'm so sad..
Tim Lambesis (from As I Lay Dying, my
favourite band) was arrested on Tues, May 7
after attempting to hire a hitman to murder his wife..
This is just insane.. Damn.. I'm in shock.
Is this the end of my fav band? :(

The Long Weekend

The first weekend of May in Poland
is the begining of barbeque season
and it's traditionally known as the
"long weekend". It starts on Wednesday
May 1st and finishes on Sunday May 5th.
It's a long weekend, 'cause May 1st is
Labor Day in Poland and May 3rd is
Constitution Day so both are the
national holidays. Long weekend
means you can take 3 free days and
then you have all together 9!

I hope the weather will be nice..

Lose weight and get fit!

Ok, it's Friday... about 10 p.m.
and I've just came home..

When Kate said she fancied giving
Nordic Walking try, I thought that
sounded like great idea.
Today the weather was great, it was warm
enough to go out without hoodie.
This morning we set out to the forest to try Kate's idea.
Well, stick a couple of poles in your hand
and walking can become quite technically challenging,
but at least I'm not the worst in it :)
I want to lose some weight and get fit,
so I hope walking will be helpfull.

I finished the 7th season of Dexter
and I'm waiting for the 8th.
If you're not a fan of the series of Dexter,
YOU DEFINITELY SHOULD BE!
It's so awesome, I had to make a
picture of the legendary Dex, his eyes
are so mysterious.. I have been impressed
by "the dark passager"..
Enjoy.

Had such a bad day

I will fast write this post, 'cause I've got a lot of work to do..
I had a horrible day.. I feel exhausted after a long day,
I won't describe in detail.. All my plans fell through.
The day is now over and the night is just starting.
I'm a "night bird", ever was and ever will be.
I tend to draw during this time.
Tomorrow I'm seeing with Damon, I missed him so much!

Time's up!

The Carnival Of Corpses

I'm watching Deadman Wonderland.
Song from the opening makes me
want to snap somebody's neck..
oh.. wait, what?

Senji Kiyomasa aka Crow
from Deadman Wonderland.
He's such a huge badass,
especially when he just randomly
shows up out of no where and
instant kills everyone!
He's my fav character from this
awesome manga (anime is
also good)

Happy Easter!

Well.. first of all let me start by saying
HAPPY EASTER to you all :)

I'm reading "Best Served Cold" by Joe Abercrombie
Book seems to be incredibly fantastic,
but I've read just few pages..
I'm looking forward to making myself a cup
of tea and having a good read!

I wanted to bake something and I had

strawberries on hand, so I tried one recipe.
Muffins turned out delicious and
I'll definitely make them again.

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup cream (12%)
  • 1-1/4 cups finely chopped fresh
     unsweetened strawberries
Directions:
  1. In a small bowl combine the first two ingredients.
In another bowl whisk the eggs, sugar, oil and cream.
Stir into the dry ingredients just until moistened.
    Fold in strawberries.
  2. Place in paper-lined muffin tins.
  3. Bake at 175°C for 35 minutes.
    Serve warm.

Coffee Mug

Today is officially the first day of spring!
The start of greening, warmer days, the fading of
this long winter...
But when I looked out this morning, the
first thought was: Why is it snowing?
It's not all! There's nothing worse than getting
stuck in traffic while going to school..

Just sipping coffee and nothing to look forward to..

Yeah.. it's not done, but I wanted to upload it.
Another version of Katarina from
League of Legends.

And this is Edward Kenway from
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
I saw the trailer and I'm completely crazy,
I love it! He's not handsome for me,
but I don't care  about it.
Assassin's Creed IV!

Legacy

`..Reach for the sky! Nothing's impossible when
you realize the strength is inside..`

I think it's already over now. End of winter of course.
Per 26 days I'm seeing with Damon. I'm excited..
And I want to see faces of all people at school when I will
come to school in my own version of assassin's costume.
I think it'll be great experience, especially for Damon..
when I will be waiting for him on the railway station as Assassin.
 Will be fun!

I drew this sketch few weeks ago. It's my interpretation of
Ezio Auditore da Firenze.

Confined

Really.. I'm so thankful for the people I meet,
the places I've been and the things I've seen, but
how am I supposed to be everything they expect
me to be when I feel so alone..

I've just finished my new FanArt.
This is Hei from Darker Than Black 2:
Ryuusei no Gemini
Kate told me that he looks like Damon,
my mum was also surprised.
They look similar to each other, that's true.
Anyway Hei's my favourite character
from this anime.

Sunday, March 10, 2013

What have I learned from yesterday? I will no longer turn my head..

`..These are the roads we paved, the strength we found and
the mistakes we made along this way..`

New FanArt of Ville Valo from HIM I dedicated to my friend, Kate.
If you're reading this at the moment.. I hope you will like it and forgive me
his too big eye like from manga.

Thursday, March 7, 2013

I'm pretty busy today, but I decided to add my
new FanArt from online game Shakes & Fidget.
These are my and Damon's game characters.
I'm not as good at drawing as I want to be,
but I think it isn't so bad.

And another FanArt: It's my friend from guild in S&F.
This one is not ready yet.

Disturbed

Tomorrow I'm going to buy tickets for Ursynalia Fest in Warsaw.
It'll be surprise present for my boyfriend Damon.
Why it would make him happy?
This year will be Parkway Drive concert, exactly in Ursynalia Fest.
This is his favourite of all metal bands. I hope concert will be great!

Parkway Drive is an Australian band. The band's genre is definited
as metalcore. Members of Parkway Drive are really cool,
they aren't selfish like the most of "idols".
